Says the focus groups...

"The exterior of the car really works," said Wade Jackson, Ford's marketing manager for the Fusion. "Four years later, it continues to test out of this world, so we kept that as a foundation."
But crossovers are taking over...

Ford hopes the Fusion can hold off a stronger challenge from the redesigned Chevrolet Malibu, while also drawing closer to the top-selling Japanese sedans. It arrives as cars are facing considerable pressure from SUVs, crossovers and low gasoline prices, making sales gains hard to come by.

"These sedans are feeling pain," said Ivan Drury, a senior analyst with Edmunds.com. "If they can maintain the level of sales for the next year, that is a success in itself."

It does indeed work well, my only beef is the aston martin looking grille. If they could change it up in ways that won't cost them a lot, it could help, but that all depends on how they view it.
I think the grille looks fine as is but I think they just don't want to change it. If it aint broke why fix it? That sounds like their thought process:

The Aston-look grille is what put the Fusion on my radar. I had been looking at other makes entirely until I kept noticing the fusion on the road. I liked the style enough that I was prepared to sacrifice a bit in the performance department when compared to some other cars I was considering.

To be honest, I prefer the 2016 grille with the horizontal bars over the grille on the 2017 Sport. I wonder if it can be swapped?
It probably helps with getting people to the brand but at the same time i'm sure its something some people are having to try to look past to get used to. I guess over time it'll grow on me.
