Hi all,

There is a post on 2gfusions about the Sync 3 2.2 update. I downloaded the update and successfully updated mine to 2.2. There don't seem to be a lot of changes, other than as a whole the unit seems snappier, and the right side LCD display next to the speedometer is now displaying info from bluetooth sources. Here is a link to the post:

Ford Sync 3 Hardware Upgrade / Conversion (Replace Existing MyFord Touch)

Here is the change log for the 2.2 update from the 2gfusions post:

Change Log:

Sync 3 2.2.6

This software release is the latest update in our continued efforts to improve system performance, device connectivity, and the overall SYNC experience.

This software contains the following enhancements:
  • Updated voice recognition engine.
  • Bluetooth phone, media, and Wi-Fi improvements.
  • Navigation user interface improvements (if equipped).
  • Android Auto for supported devices.
  • Apple CarPlay for supported devices. Owners of 2016 models with SYNC 3 are required to perform a software upgrade and purchase a hardware upgrade through your dealer.
The installation of this update will take up to 60 minutes to complete. DO NOT remove your USB drive or turn off your vehicle. You must wait until Installation Complete is displayed on the center screen before removing your drive or turning your vehicle off. Be sure your vehicle engine is running (not in accessory mode) throughout the entire installation process. Although your vehicle must be in park when you initiate the installation process, once the download process has begun, you may drive your vehicle.

Direct download links for the update files:

Download Links (Ford Direct)

Navigation Equipped: http://ivsu.binaries.ford.com/owner-pack...381-LG.zip
Non-Navigation: http://ivsu.binaries.ford.com/owner-pack...381-LG.zip

Installation is simple. I got a 4 GB USB drive formatted as ExFat. Extract the zip file to the root of the USB stick. There should be 1 file and 1 folder containing multiple files on the USB drive. Turn the car on and insert the USB stick. You should almost immediately get a message that states "updating system software". After about 15 - 20 minutes you will get another message stating update is complete and to remove the USB drive. The new software will take effect the next time you start your car.

I have navigation on mine. I can only speak for the update process on navigation equipped models. People in other forums are reporting success with non-navigation models. Please be sure to download the correct files for your system.

Ford has not released these publicly for the Fusion Sport yet, so please be cautious and if you decide to upgrade, you are doing so at your own risk.

Downloading now, though we'll see how long it takes, it's moving at 100KB/s right now.

Edit: Is there a way to find the current software version on the Sync 3 system?

Since I can no longer edit my last post, looks like I'm currently on version 2.0. Will post an update once it's downloaded and installed.

Works as well as my 2017 Sport.

Thanks for the info.

Couldn't get the car to recognize that there was an update. Guess we'll have to wait for the official version.
From other forums, this is usually due to either:

1. The .zip file wasn't completely downloaded or didn't extract correctly.

2. The flash drive wasn't formatted as ExFat

Used a third-party copy as it downloaded faster than 100KBps, and downloaded a second time to verify it downloaded correctly. 8GB card on exFAT.

So more than 1 person has successfully upgraded their FFS to 2.2?

What was gained for you? I assume you already had 2.0 and CarPlay as you have a 2017 FFS.

I had read that this update wan't for our cars.

If there is any benefit I will do it today.

Thanks

Jim

No joy for me trying to upgrade.

Formatted USB 2.0 drive 8GBs to exFat, extracted the v2.2 for Navigation to the USB drive (1 file, 1 folder) and turned on the car let everything settle down (nav. display is up, done with importing my contacts from phone, etc. Insert the USB drive into the center front USB port, nothing, nada, try the USB port in the arm rest, nothing honey. Went and resized exFat to under 4GBs and still nothing.

I guess I wait till Ford releases it OTA.

Have not noticed much change and I have used
quite a bit of the options that are available.

Everything was running just fine before I did the
upgrade, did the upgrade only to have the system
updated with the latest version.

Currently on Sync 2.0

Hello all,

Can any one confirm on the 2.2 update if it seemed to correct issues with Applink connectivity?

I always have an issue connecting my iPhone to Applink. It either doesn't ready any of the apps, even when they are running and phone is on, or it does read the apps but eventually the apps freeze and i cant control it through Sync, I then have to restart my phone or unplug and plug it back. This update is worth it if it fixes this issue.

I would say it has made it better but has not yet completely fixed it. Before the update I would need to disconnect / reconnect my phone multiple times to get it to work. Now it seems to be only 1 disconnect / reconnect.

Luck of the draw?

Curious why some of us 2017 FFS owners are able to USB upgrade from sync 3 v 2.0 to 2.2 and others, like myself, do not get Sync to detect that there is a USB drive inserted with a firmware update?

I tried exFat and FAT32 with no response at all when I insert the 8GB USB thumb drive.

Some people have reported success using a "different" USB drive than the first one they tried. I used a 4 GB USB drive and it worked on my FFS and also my 2017 Explorer.
