Sport mode paddle shift to lowest possible gear and hangs without shifting

I was approaching a red light, had it in sport mode, traction control off, and pressed the downshift paddle until it went down to the lowest gear available, eventually got down to 2nd while still rolling. From my understanding, this transmission is supposed to shift automatically even if you start to select gears (as it has done most of the time other than this and one other time) Today, when I went WOT, it stuck at redline for a really unusually long time, finally automatically upshifted, and did the same thing being stuck at redline or even slightly higher, for even longer, HUGE delay, and finally upshifted.

Because this happened before, and I even brought this up to my dealer who didn't have time to check it, I tried to get it to do it again, and every other time after that it will automatically shift as it is supposed to (which really sucks to get the dealer to do anything if it can't be replicated) Anybody think it could throw a TCU code that can show up to the dealer, to help diagnose this? Has anybody ever had this happen? Is there any TCU TSB to reprogram? It is a 2018 Sport and is stock.

Mine seems to decide when it wants to upshift on redline in sport. Stock has some strange trans decisions. It’s quite annoying and I end up leaving in sport auto most of the time because of it. I’ve had that happen in the worst situations and I’m still bitter about that time it made me look slow next to a 392.

Guess I gotta leave it in sport automatic with traction control off, as I used to always do. I hated how the transmission would sometimes not downshift, and at WOT, it performed/felt pathetic at the gear it left it in. One time tried the paddles, to see when/where it let me downshift, and once it finally let me downshift, it felt faster for some reason (on the pull, when it went through a couple gears) Probably was just good timing of when I gunned it tbh (so would have felt the same in sport auto).

Mine shifts automatically in Sport until you hit the first paddle, then it is on you to shift.
It will rocket right up to redline after that and stay there unless you shift it or bang back
out of Sport.
If you hold the paddle until the gear indicator stops flashing, it will return to automatic shifting while in Sport mode. Example I use is that while in sport mode, I will manually upshift to 6th gear to lower RPM while on straight road. If I then hold the upshift paddle until the 6th gear indicator stops flashing it will revert back to automatic shifting. I do this so it will upshift automatically when starting out from the next light.

In manual mode, my car upshifts at redline at WOT. At anything less than WOT it will sit at redline.

Thanks for adding that clarification. Yes, it will eventually shift itself at redline if you don't once you
start messing with paddles.

You can tune Manual and Sport mode anyway you like it, I have mine set up pretty good, but it could still use a bit of tweaking.

Funny all the tuners claim you can't tune Sport. I assume they just don't feel like it.

It's in there, just needs attention like everything else. I bump my shift pressures up in manual mode and set up the speeds better, one thing they do is set the shift schedules way high in Sport mode.
