The speaker in my driver side door (upper) is going out. It buzzes on some music, not all. I was wondering if anyone has changed theirs out yet and if so, what speaker did you use? Any recommendations?

When I change this speaker out, I intend on changing out all 4 of the upper door speakers. I want to maintain a consistent sound.

Hi maydk. My recommendation would be to use the resources at Crutchfield.com to find the best fit for what you are looking for as far as fitment, quality and price point. You can also call and speak to one of their installation specialists. Even if you decide to buy from somewhere else, their database will still help you out immensely.

I have used them in the past and highly recommend them. If you decide to purchase from them, they provide all wiring harnesses and connectors needed for installation, detailed installation instructions, lifetime tech support etc. Their prices are not fire sale, rock bottom, discount basement lowest, but are definitely competitive.

Also, out of curiosity...is your car still within the New Car Bumper to Bumper Warranty (3 years/36,000 miles)? If yes, the speaker would usually be replaced under warranty.

Good luck.

Are you talking about the tweeter in the driver's door? Mine has cut in and out as well, I have to smack it from time to time.

BBF2530, I just went over 36k, so no warranty. Thanks for the Crutchfield idea. That looks very helpful.

That's interesting. I bought a replacement, they're like $16. I just haven't felt like tearing apart the door panel to replace it. It's odd that the same tweeter in both our cars have exhibited issues.

The door panel is easy to remove, there’s a 10mm bolt behind the door handle, 2 5.5mm screws under the window controls panel and 2 7mm screws at the very bottom of the door panel. Then you just pop the plastic clips and lift the whole panel up.

I should have updated the thread, about 6 months ago I decided to replace it. The door panel came off very easily but it would have been great to have another person to help hold it while swapping out the tweeter. The new tweeter made a HUGE difference. Like immediately I could hear music playing out of that tweeter with the door open, no joke. That old tweeter physically looked fine, I still have it as a souvenir. But it would play music at a very low volume apparently or not at all. It made my ears feel imbalanced like one side was clogged. Haha.

I was tempted to buy the MKZ tweeter ("Revel") but didn't want to do the same on the passenger side.

My hearing is not that good as I wear hearing devices but before I shut my car off I always hear buzzing which seems to be coming from the touch screen.
It could be the cooling fan for the display/APIM. I know as far back as the old touch screen NAV systems that Ford started using in 2008 (Pioneer) there was a cooling fan inside of that.
Also if you use the Dorman LED Puddle lights, they buzz as the lights dim down due to the stepping circuits.

If I put my ear near the tweeters without audio playing (like if I opened the door w/o starting) i can hear white noise.

Yes to me it actually sounds like crackling. Once the touch screen goes off the crackling stops. Thanks for the info

Metroplex, did you replace the tweeter with the same OEM part or an aftermarket one?

I replaced all of my door speakers with two sets of Rockford Fosgate P1675-S, and the tweeter that came with that snapped into the factory slots perfectly.
Crutchfield says they will have to be surface mounted but that’s not necessarily true. It’s just a standard 1” tweeter. I will attach a picture of the Rockford tweeter for reference.

Thank you for mentioning this! It has always driven me a little nutty trying to figure out what that noise is.
