Ok, so as per the sales pitch I was told sync 3 would allow me to use fordpass app to start unlock etc. Well I cannot get any features to open in the app, I called the dealer and they didn't have anyone available to assist me. So I called the fordpass folks, they tell me I don't have the modem or what has it to do this. I then called back my salesman and told him what they said, he reassured me I have sync connect as part of my 401a package. So I went to another dealer to try and see if I could get better answers.... NOPE. I'm so irritated with FORD right now, can you guys ease my mind and give me real answers because the local dealers are ****, fordpass is **** and customer care at ford is ****.

As far as I know, you have to buy another package to get the fordpass app to start the car. In the brochure it states it came standard with sync3, but it doesn't.

It comes in the Driver Assist package. It's not a part of the 401a

This. Also, I started a similar thread a long while back about the same issue. The 401a package is only half the deal... The Driver Assist is the only package that has the modem.

My modem isn't working by the way. It looks like I'll have to bring it in to the dealer if the FordPass guys can't figure out what's wrong on their end.

Yes it is. I thought the same thing. If I knew that other portion was needed to do all these things, I would have ordered it too. But because they don't tell you those things, people don't get everything they want.

A lot of salesmen don't really know enough about all the packages and technology. I did a lot of research beforehand so I knew what I needed.

Yea, I didn't look into it as much. I just took it for granted when I saw it online, asked salesman and was told the same thing

Disappointed in Ford. The ball was dropped on an opportunity into the connected car realm to be a success. GM is blazing trails with this technology and is market leader in that space. I have owned several GM cars, and still do. I can honestly say that their connected car experience is good.

It is now 2017, and I don't understand why ford isn't putting this modem and technology in all of the new cars that roll off the line. From a part cost perspective, it's cheaper, I get it. But from a customer experience and satisfaction perspective, I don't get it.

I was lucky enough to have done enough research, I am OCD like that, to have figured out that I needed the DA package to use the app. The dealer I went to, had no clue though, and that's on them. With how advanced these cars are, dealers are now employing connected car specialists to help with purchaser setup and adoption. There should be no reason why salespersons at a dealer shouldn't have the correct information or at a minimum be able to ask someone to get it.

Sorry, rant over.

I wonder if Sync Connect could be added to a 17? It's just a cell module and antenna. I would think the software is already built into sync 3. Maybe push Ford to see if it can be done as they did not deliver what you wanted.

There was an add on module for the prior Fords. Its still listed on the Ford site but the cost is just stupid. I looked into it once when looking at the 16's (Ford service confirmed it would work) and there was a $49 year fee. It also required Ford service to activate it so you could not purchase it and install it yourself. Glad I waited for the 17's.

I personally wanted Fordpass and did also figure out that I needed the DA pkg. But that and heated steering wheel were all I cared about, and I couldn't justify 1600 for just those two options. I am sooo glad the ice cold seats came as an independent option.

ditto 100%. I really, really wish the heated steering wheel was with 401a or an independent option like the cooled seats. I'm living without fordpass really easily, but the temps are dipping, and that leather wheel is COLD. Its such a ripoff for D.A.

maybe it could be added later if you could find the wheel from a wrecker in the future. I'd try it

I would be pretty fuming.. and it's not our fault as the consumer that the sales people aren't fully aware of these things. It's a product they're selling and they should be trained thoroughly for that to avoid situations just like these. There's really no excuse for that.

I have the Ford Pass, you aren't missing much.... really. I've use it no more than 3 times, and that was just to get it activated and test it.

The remote start works from far enough away, that by the time my slowness gets to the car, the wheel is warm and the seat has had the crisp bite taken out of it.

I lived near and worked in Boston for a couple years. I drove a car with no heated steering wheel. It was a nightmare. I swear I almost got frostbite filling up gas in Dorchester.

I agree 100%. I sort of got lucky due to the fact that I was at dealership trying to get information on the Sport before they went on sale. So at that time I was getting a lot of I don't knows' from the salesman. Plus I've learned from past experience that the salesman always knows less about a car than I do by the time I show up. I once was looking at some sort of jeep, salesman couldn't figure out how to put it in full time 4wheel drive. I figured it out while he went in to ask. When I was looking at the Focus ST the dealership assigned me a salesman that didn't know how to drive a stick, really!
