Kinda sorta related, but there is also a yard in Lincoln Nebraska with a couple 3.0's on eBay. I may make an offer on one of them, both were around 2 grand.

get them while you can lol
It's tempting, but I,ll more than likely pass since the time when we could do big jobs like that has ended at the shop. Afraid if I cant do it here in my driveway, it wont get done.

Lol, no. that was for the whole motor with turbos, 18 with 23,000 miles on it. I only paid 580 for my 3.0 turbos off a 18 with only 1300 miles on it.

Guess they have gone up, as LKQ is showing $457 for one turbo with 27K. (cheapest $344 for one with 60K)
Yeah, I paid 240 a piece for mine from a yard in California a year ago in May, still have yet to put them on the car, LOL.

FYI, Car-part.com is a great resource. I used it a TON to restore a salvaged FFS. That's also how I found my mkz turbo's.
What I don't get about both Car-part.com and LKQ online is that a number of sellers seem to be offering the exact same part and donor car pictures, but from different cities. Almost like they are just part brokers and don't really have the parts on hand.

Weird, I noticed that too. I thought I was just crazy. It must be some type of broker system going on like you said... Although, LKQ is HUGE, it's kind of weird they would need to go that route... Unless LKQ owns a network of salvage yards and is more a distributor these days. Or if they have some type of affiliate program with several salvage yards and distribute for them. It is definitely strange.
LKQ does own a network of salvage yards all over the country east of the Mississippi River. They sell the reclaimed useable parts to private and commercial (insurance, auto repair, export, etc.) customers and the rest they sell as scrap metals and plastics on contracts with large industrial scrap processors.

The level of knowledge on this forum is just incredible. I see that over and over again, just the group of folks we have on here, and the things they know about and can explain to everybody is just terrific!

I dont care for LKQ much, we buy from them and almost every time the parts are damaged in one way or another. Got so bad that we stopped using them for the most part except recon wheels. You order anything like a turbo from them who knows what you may get. They have stock pictures, so think about it, take the best looking part and shoot it. Now use that image for all your listings regardless of the millage on the part. You'll end up with parts that have say 10,000 miles on them and then another listing will have the same pic, but the part will have over a 100,000 miles on it. It's shady sales. Also look at the motors they sell, you'll see a lot of them have way over a 100,000 miles on them, and yet they want big money. I bought my turbos from a yard that list on eBay, they where what was in the photos, and not some beat to death looking part. Good example was the guy that blew his motor, ordered one from LKQ, and he gets an engine with the timing cover busted where the motor mount goes. That's a bad sale, if we got something like that, it would go right back on the truck. We always look stuff over anymore with them, and have had to send back a lot of stuff that the guy that inspected it before it was packaged up and loaded must be blind as a damn bat.

I remember that situation with the damaged motor mount! What a nightmare!

I got my turbos from the Triplett Blvd., Akron OH LKQ and they were my scrap account at the time. This particular salvage yard was always a good yard to start with, going back to the early 1980’s and when LKQ bought them, they kept all the people and management in place. It’s continued to be a good source to deal with. That said, when I bought my turbos, they came from Michigan. They were in fantastic shape except that they sent two right (iirc) side turbos. They had different barcodes and sku numbers but they were definitely identical. Unfortunately it was my mechanic who figured it out (luckily, before he removed the stock pieces), so I had to do a lot of driving back and forth to get the turbos straightened out. To LKQ Tripletts credit, they overnighted a replacement and before they called me in they realized it was wrong too, but they got on the phone and worked through it with the other yard who overnighted the correct turbo finally. My guy there said there was a major misidentification going on all over their network over the FWD platform turbos! In the end I got one turbo with <1000 miles on it and another with 13k on it. But both were in very good condition and I’ve had zero troubles with them since.

That's were all our calls go now that they shut down Perrysburg.
Oh and we have a LKQ here in town, use to be a Goody's. My old bosses dad worked there when he was a kid I guess back before he started the body shop in the mid 50's.
