Forward collision warning with brake support - share your story

Hey, since I got mine with FCWwBS I was wondering for a while how would I ever know if the system works at all, unless I get into a crash or really dang close to a crash. Today I was driving (35-40 MPH) and a Lexus RX (yes, I know right?) in front of me was about to turn right but in the last second he decided not to turn but to continue straight and magic happened, beeps and red LED's went off meaning Fusion was actually paying attention. I was paying attention as well so the situation was not dangerous but I was glad that whatever software or AI this thing is using it made a right call.

Just wanted to share this with the Forum. I know Ford has very good FCWwBS and gets Superior rating by IIHS but all that is nothing until you personally experience it.

And yes, I gave my car nice pat on the A-pillar when I got home...
Cheers

You can hang a bed sheet and drive towards it at 20... so if you don't trust it what's the worst that can happen...
I sat in stop/go traffic one day where the collision warning went off every time the vehicle in front of me stopped ... if my foot wasn't on the brake it seemed to assume I wasn't paying attention. Other than that time, it's warned me on some people making right turns where I didn't touch the brakes, and the very first time was a bicyclist I was trying to run over :)

You can adjust the sensitivity of the warning system.

Mark
I had a car cut me off yesterday morning and got the light show but no brake assist so it seems that there are two stages of the system. Warn first and then brake if the driver doesn't take action.
It does work, I once was not paying attention & the car in front of me braked. The warning came first on the dash with the sound, then it braked.
Glad I had it!
Sometimes when you are making a turn & there is on coming traffic, it does go off. This as someone said can be adjusted from your steering wheels.
I jumped out to pass a slowpoke on the highway and the car moved a little faster than I expected. Got the light show and sound, but then I cleared the corner of the car and all was well. Good to know it's paying attention!

I am not sure if FCW works in stop and go traffic, I think it has like a minimum speed of 10 MPH (I don't have my manual here) before it engages. Maybe I am just silly...

And yes, if it helped you by not running the bicyclist over, it paid for itself...

OTH Ford claims that this system recognize pedestrians and up to 20-25MPH can stop the car even if the kids (higher than 80 cm) run between the parked cars...pretty cool thing.
I HATE driving to work at night in dense fog. You never know what could be lurking unseen. I had a close encounter with a big buck one night. This system gives me a little peace of mind. Would love to hear a story along these lines.
