Ford Corporate Performance Claims for Fusion Sport

It looks like Ford recently provided some hands on training for its dealers with the 2017 model year Fusions. With it came some facts, figures, market comparisons, etc.

The source I will link below was trained by Ford Corporate. The presenter passes on the following information from FoMoCo:

  • the Fusion Sport is FASTER to 60mph than an automatic Mustang GT
  • the Fusion Sport is "tied" with an automatic Mustang GT to 100mph

If this holds true that is one fast family sedan.😂

Fast Forward to 8:58 to hear the Fusion Sport performance claims:

Official 0-60 for the Mustang GT is 4.5 seconds, if the Fusion Sport can beat that then Ford has developed the ultimate sleeper.
Thanks for the video Bamm. I was leaning towards the GT or EBM but now, IDK.
The automatic GT is likely faster in the 1/4 mile and around a track (since FoMoCo didn't mention it). So depends on your priorities.

But with that said the same acceleration up to 100mph as a V8 muscle car for a family sedan is pretty crazy.
This video is getting me very excited. The all wheel drive and 380 torque is going to have this car moving out quick from a standstill. 4.5 0-60 stock is no joke with more performance available from a simple tune.
Sleeper is definitely what the fusion sport is. Nobody would ever expect it to have results like this or these specs just by looking at it.
Although an MT with RWD sounds like alot of fun, the four doors and AWD would be much more practical for (rare) family outings and WI winters. I have owned two new SHO's in the past and the New Sport is kinda like an evolved SHO. Since they are halting production of the SHO, a Sport seems like the logical next step.
Manual will be fun but automatic is the way to go for performance. I plan on using it as a daily driver and having MT in busy bumper to bumper traffic can be a PITA. Rather have it automatic and then buy a weekend toy that's MT ;)
Has anyone seen verification of these performance # claims
from any other source?

TQ hungry . . .
That's another thing... I'm readily awaiting dyno charts.. from several different sources

I would disagree with auto = performance. At least in the current Ford world full of 6-speed autos (no DCTs, 7+ speed autos, etc.) the manual version is always faster than the automatic equipped model. When the 9 (FWD) and 10 (RWD) speed autos start showing up that will likely change.

Not possible. There are no ‘17 Fusion Sports “in the wild”. There have not even been any “first drive impression”-type reviews, never mind performance tests, for the Sport yet. This video is the first mention of performance numbers I have seen to date.

I am more interested in performance numbers. I am in the “how fast” not the “how much” crowd. From the standard car mag instrumented tests to owner’s taking their vehicles to the track.
This video really whets my appetite for this car. Can't wait to see what the reviewers have to say about it!
Dynos and time slips. For now, I'd be happy to see one in person. My dealer has one on order. Gotta see those wheels. I do have a near new set of 18" TSW Vales. Might put those on her or spring for 19" TSW Mechanicas.
The Mechanicas would look pretty darn nice, but I would need a bit of a meaty tire on there
I read 235/40 in a Motor Trend article.

That is correct.

The MKZ uses 245/40 on the same width wheel.
I will be shocked if it really does mid 4 seconds 0-60, but I will glady buy one if it does. I commute a long distance and need something comfortable and I am excited about the adaptive cruise control. If this thing is faster than a WRX I am all in.

The WRX goes 0-60 in ~5.0 sec and does the 1/4 mile in ~13.7 @ 101 mph. I think the Fusion Sport should easily tie that (or beat it) given that the 500+ lb. heavier Edge Sport with 10 less HP and 30 less TQ can hit the same marks in 5.6 sec and 14.2 @ 98 mph.

I think the one HUGE difference is how you get those numbers in the WRX vs. the Ford Sport duo. The WRX requires a highly abusive redline clutch dump. Skip the redline launch and you are not even getting close to those numbers.
I think it'll beat it no problem.

245/40 on the other hand doesn't sound that bad.. maybe something with a slightly higher profile though... but something real sticky
