So I went out and got a set of Rhino ramps to replace my spotty jacks/jackstands that i have been using to change all of my older cars oil. My question is how many of yall use rhino's or some other ramp that isn't our 18" or 19" rim/tire wide, and if you do use it then do you lead with the outside of the tire to the outside lip of the ramp? I went to one of my buddies to fix a bad oil change a "quick stop oil change" place that used the wrong oil and overcharged me(different story altogether) but when i went to his place he has the exact same set i have but i just didn't notice that my tires were overhanging i guess. Either that or he has some extremely wide ones that i can't find anywhere on the internet. If you have them, what is your normal procedure/do you feel comfortable with using them+e-brake+chocks on back wheels? If you use something else, then what is it and was it an affordable solution to the problem or is it the higher priced "race ramps"/something similar to those? Just wanting to get all of my maintenance gear setup and worry-free so i can focus on saving/building up my baby! lol. Any and all info is greatly appreciated.

Hi lazylab. If I understand your question correctly, you are saying your tires are wider than the ramp...correct? If that is the case, and you an not get wider ramps, I would just do the best job possible to center the ramps in the middle of the tires, so that the overhang is as close as possible to being even on the inside and outside of the tire. Then, assuming it is not a major amount of overhang (how much overhang is there?), and there are not lips on the topsides of the ramp which could make things unstable, there will be no issues.

Perhaps photos of the ramps may help.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

I would not get rhino ramps. I don't like the way they are built. Not enough structure between those round pieces in the middle and the pieces surrounding them.

I ended up getting these, and I still would never trust them on their own. I still at a minimum stuff two jackstands under some part of frame or even two floor jacks
after driving up on them.

I also think the fusion is about the most weight I would put on any plastic ramps, being 1/5th ish of their rating, say 2500 lbs front of fusion vs 13K rating

Funny thing, I'm actually about to go buy those tomorrow cause I also didn't like the look of the rhino ramps. Need to have my own 😂 can't keep borrowing them from family for oil changes.

The HF one's? So far I've used them twice on front of Fusion and once on front of Grand Marq (which weighs about what fusion does). So far OK.
I really only use them outside doing something really messy I don't want to do on my lifts inside. I always use 1/2 inch plywood under them outside though.

I've had mine for years now, still sturdy and trustworthy. As BBF said the ramp vs wheel needs to be centered, then pull straight forward. When I drive my Fusion onto them the tire sits perfectly fine between the raised edges. After driving onto them tho, ALWAYS use the parking brake. And personally for good measure, I put jack stands under the front two jacking points of the car.

As for strength, there's failures with everything. I see way more of these in the wild than the handful of people stating they would never trust them. Either way, that's just more reason to never have a single point of failure. Either way, I've been using them 2-3 times per years with both my Fusion as well as my 4,500lb Edge Sport with 265/40/22 tires which just fit on the ramps with a little tire resting on the sides.

Heck, my buddy has a pair and he tried driving his GTI onto them with a DSG transmission. He feathered the throttle, the trans freaked out and let out the clutch and quickly re-engaged, which then shot both ramps backwards wedging them about half way down the car leaving the whole car teetering on the two ramps. That was 2017 I believe, and he's still using them.

The biggest thing with them is that you should absolutely be using them on flat and level ground. You don't want to stress them in a way they're not designed to withstand. But that can be said with any kind of ramp/stand holding several thousand pounds above your head.

I've had a set that I have been using for 12-15 years. Zero issues. I use them for maintenance on all of our vehicles, including my son's Ram 1500.
However, the ramp angle is too severe for the GT-350 and lowered Fusion. So, I place a 12"x12"x2" board in front of each ramp so that the splitter/ lower bumper cover doesn't just push the ramps across the floor.

I've used Rino Ramps with my Fusion about a dozen times in my garage without issue. As said above "you should absolutely be using them on flat and level ground".

That dude in the video totally overshot the ramps each time he used them and even admitted that he had one tipped up a bit and had to back off. Seems like too steep of a driveway for him to be using them on.
